About The Event
Dr Joanna Neath, neuropsychologist the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuropsychiatry Unit, will explore the interface between the neurosciences and art therapy.
Through case study examples, Dr Neath will discuss the interface between the neurosciences and art therapy, looking at the neural pathways implicated in various dementia presentations and how they may impact on creativity or a person’s artistic work. Focusing on the Unit’s multidisciplinary team approach to diagnosis, Dr Neath will discuss improved outcomes for patients which have evolved from the sharing of knowledge across the two disciplines.
Dr Neath supervises art therapists on placement in RMH’s Neuropsychiatry Unit as part of her role as a senior neuropsychologist in the Unit.
“Art therapy is slowly becoming embedded in modern day medicine and the idea of art therapy working together with neuroscience towards better outcomes for our patients is exciting.” Dr Joanna Neath, Neuropsychologist.
